It is a dam across river Cauvery, 1700 m long dam, built in
the year 1934. The water from this dam irrigates 2.75 lakh acres of
agricultural land in Salem, Erode, Namakkal, Karur, Tiruchir,appalli and
Thanjavur districts. It is located 52 Km away from Salem. There is a beautiful
park and children play area near the dam. There are Hydro Electric and
Thermal Power Stations based on this dam.

This is a large water body spreading over 58 acres in Salem,

Lord Ganesha at the entrance. Sri Umayambigai Sametha Sri Arunachala
Sundareswara is the main deity of this temple. With the Sankagiri Mountains at

6. Kalipatti Kandaswamy Temple
Murugan, also known as Kandswamy is the main deity worshiped
in this temple. It is one of the oldest temples in Salem with a rich cultural
heritage, built in the 18th century. It is 20 km away from the temple. The
devotees come here to get Karun Sambal, an antidote made up of snake poison. On Thaipusam day, the two special chariots Chitra Ther and Vinayaka Ther are
taken in a procession around the temple.

7. Kurumbapatti Zoological Park
This zoological park has various kinds of animal and bird
species. The main attractions are the white peacock and colorful cranes. It is
spread across an area of 11.5 hectares. There is a playground for children

8. Sankagiri Fort
This is the most popular tourist spot of Salem. This
historic fort is located a few miles away from Salem city on the Sankagiri
Hills at an altitude of 40 ft above sea level. There are 10 compound walls, 5
temple complexes, 2 mosques, and 6 platforms. The weapons, pistols, jewels, and
other artifacts belonging to Tipu Sultan and Theeran Chinnamalai are displayed
in this fort.

9. Jama Masjid
You must never miss this Masjid as it is an extremely
important religious attraction, 5 km away from Salem City. It was built per the

This waterfall is situated 3 km away from Salem city. The
